Week 7 · Mid-Trimester Break

No teaching session this week — mid-trimester break. There is no hands-on lab.

One thing is worth doing while Week 6 is still fresh: sit the Google Analytics certification (A2, 5%). It is free, and this is the sensible week to take it.

Week 6 covered most of the examinable ground: the measurement model, dimensions and metrics, the four ways an event arrives, and the report families. It is fresh this week — it will not be by Week 12.

Students who leave this to the end of the trimester end up revising against the group-project deadline. The certification takes an afternoon.

The Unit 13 self-guided app covers it, and has a knowledge check on the same ground. In particular:

  • The three levels — event, session, user — and what each one actually counts
  • Engaged sessions: over 10 seconds, or a key event, or two or more page views
  • Dimensions vs metrics, and how to sort any field into one or the other
  • The four collection types: automatic, enhanced measurement, recommended, custom
  • Why two reports of the same week can disagree

The Google Analytics Certification is taken through Google’s Skillshop. It is free, open-book, and can be retaken. When you pass, download the certificate PDF and submit it to xSiTe.
